Olympic Lifting into the CrossFit Record Books
We had the pleasure of being part of the Western Warriors Weightlifting Competition on Saturday 11th July.
Born from the idea that CrossFitters love to Oly, CrossFit Rise Up owners Ben and Logan Poon along with Damien Hennigan of CrossFit Westgate, came up with the idea to run a unique Weightlifting Competition for CrossFitters.
Only in their second year running, this comp sold out within hours of being released and there’s no doubt it’s here to stay!

Stretching our Way to Success in the Gym
For as long as I can remember, my warm ups for football, running or sport in general had always incorporated a component of static stretching. We were led to believe that by stretching before activity would prepare our muscles and help prevent injury.
2015 Annual Australian Coach of the Year
It's with Great Pleasure that we Announce the Winners of our 2015 Annual Australian Coach of the Year. This has been our biggest year with 180 nominations for 26 Coaches from all over Australia. The majority of our nominated coaches currently work as CrossFit Coaches and it's great to see a combination of owner coaches and coaches be nominated by their members.
We'd like to thank every single athlete who took time out to nominate their coach and put forward compelling cases. We had an amazing but diffiuclt time assessing all the entries and finding our winners. Special thanks to Siobhan from CrossFit U in the Anything else we shold know category who gave us some movie advice "The new mad Max movie is really cool. Maybe you should check it out :)" Thanks Siobhan we might just do that.
So without any further adieu here are the winners and complete list of nominated coaches. We've also added in some of the entries under each of the coaches, so you can see that there are some amazing people out there going above and beyond their duty.
To these coaches, we salute you.

6 Great Ways to Beat the Chill with your Warm Up
Actually, it feels like its already here!
You rock up to the box, rugged up from head to toe and your coach announces that its time to WARM UP! What does that even really mean? You’re already warm right? Beanie, scarf, hoodie, track pants….
Here’s a break down on why we really warm up and how to do it correctly!

Three Mobility Exercises to Improve Overhead Position
So often we see people come into the clinic with issues performing overhead moves, none more so than the Snatch or Overhead Squat.
For the most of us, we are chained to a desk the good majority of the day, most days a week. This sustained stooped forward position leads to your thoracic spine being stuck in flexion, which doesn’t allow proper scapula mechanics, in turn limit end overhead position or if left unattended can lead to painful shoulder impingement syndrome.

The Science of the Squat
The squat has long been held as a mainstay exercise in programming for a wide range of athletes and gym-goers. From bodybuilders to powerlifters to sprinters to golfers and everyone in between, the weighted squat remains the ultimate exercise in lower body strength and power and a key to high-level athletic performance. But what makes the squat so effective? What are the factors that lead to such obvious physiological improvements?

Competing Outside the Gym, our 45km Trail Run at Mt Buller
Having tried to suppress the memories from March 29th, two weeks on I am now able to bring you the results you have all been waiting for…did James and Alex make the distance in the Mount Buller 45km Skyrun, with only 6 weeks worth of training behind them?

Is CrossFit the Sport of Fitness?
Is CrossFit the Sport of Fitness? It uses high intensity workouts combined with Olympic lifting moves, strength training and gymnastics to build strength, speed, power and endurance. So does it work? Sure you may be getting stronger, and you may have cut your Fran time in half, but are you truly improving your aerobic capacity?
There are a lot of articles out there both promoting and condemning the extent of energy system crossover from training with a CrossFit style program.
So to put this uncertainty to rest, a couple of the guys from Evolutio Sports Physio are setting out to test the extent of movement and energy system transfer by entering into a 45-kilometer run through the Victorian Alpine Region.
